Family signifies (elective) affinity, blood ties, sometimes lifelong attachment, and above all the repeated renegotiation of borderlines. This publication highlights the different forms that the depiction of the family can take in photography and art: photographs document everyday family life and capture emotional moments. In photography, family members can also become cooperation partners in the process of determining the image. In the context of genealogical projects authors seek to explore their own life story by way of that of their ancestors.
